The FY2022 results briefing of the "Nishi-Shinjuku Advanced Service Implementation/Industry-Government-Academia Consortium" was held!

 On March 30, 2023 (Thursday), the Nishi-Shinjuku Advanced Service Implementation Industry-Government-Academia Consortium (hereinafter referred to as the "Consortium") The Consortium is a collaboration of diverse entities from industry, government, and academia.

 The Consortium was launched in September 2022 with the aim of promoting a wide range of initiatives to make Nishi-Shinjuku a smart city through collaboration among various entities in industry, government, and academia. The Consortium has subcommittees in which multiple members work on common themes, and each subcommittee has implemented several projects that aim to make the Nishi-Shinjuku area a smart city through the use of cutting-edge technologies.

 At the results reporting session, each of these subcommittees/projects reported on the results of their efforts to date and their future activity plans!

Debriefing on the results

 The results briefing session began with a speech by Vice Governor Miyasaka. He spoke about the future for Nishi-Shinjuku and his expectations for the consortium.

 The Tokyo Metropolitan Government then gave an overview of the consortium, after which the presenters spoke passionately about the main themes of the subcommittees/projects and the outline of the results of the Digital Society Human Resource Development Program!

Subcommittee/Project

(1) Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.

Subcommittee: Automated Delivery Subcommittee for Realizing New Urban Logistics
 Aiming to implement automatic delivery services by delivery robots using 5G, ideas for utilization based on discussions with participating organizations, activity plans for deregulation of common conquests, etc. were presented.

Project: Project for implementation of automatic delivery service business using 5G in Nishi-Shinjuku
 As part of the project to implement an automated delivery service for the delivery and collection of food delivery and medical supplies, the results of a questionnaire survey on delivery quality, issues and proposed measures for the future, etc., were presented as a result of this service verification.

(2) JORDAN Co.

[Subcommittee: Data Collaboration Platform Subcommittee to Promote Local Awareness and Business Participation
 The results of discussions on the data platform that will serve as the foundation for the provision of services in the future West Shinjuku utilizing complex data were presented through a total of four meetings for exchanging opinions among the participants.

Project: 5G and Other Advanced Technology Service Project - Making Nishi-Shinjuku a Lively City with the Power of IT
 The business results of the last fiscal year and the activity plan for 2023 and beyond were presented for the demonstration project to link route search and various local services based on the data platform Nishi-Shinjuku Mode released by the company last fiscal year.

(c) Taisei Corporation

[Subcommittee: Digital Twin Subcommittee for Creating and Implementing Urban Services
 Aiming to realize a digital infrastructure that enables various stakeholders to participate in the urban development of Nishi-Shinjuku, an overview of the data model and application developed with the cooperation of participants and the results of a hands-on event for city residents were presented.

Project: Nishi-Shinjuku "Thin Digital Twin" Project
 The presentation included a report on the development of urban data using high-precision laser scanning, the development status of an urban space reproduction application that utilizes the data, the results of a hands-on event for Tokyo residents, and plans for future activities.

4) MotionLib Inc.

Subcommittee: Investigating means of solving social issues using tactile sensation control technology
 The session presented the results of its study on the direction of utilization of "Real Haptics," a tactile sensation control technology, with the aim of identifying social issues that can be solved by having "tactile sensation," studying ideas for solutions, and realizing their implementation in society.

Project: Shinjuku Feel Zoo HapticZoo
 The results of a questionnaire survey and future activity policy based on the survey results were announced for "Shinjuku Sensei Zoo HapticZoo," which provides an experience of "touching" animals in AR that can be seen through smartphones by making full use of "Real Haptics". The results of the survey and future activity policy based on the results were presented.

5) Odakyu Electric Railway Co.

Subcommittee: Subcommittee to Study Urban Implementation of XR for Enhancing Local Attractiveness
 Aiming to promote the sustainable provision of XR services in West Shinjuku through the resolution of issues faced by players involved in XR, the results of the organization of issues and expectations for the subcommittee by each player in the implementation of XR measures and the activity plan based on these results were presented.

Project: Establishment of a mechanism for social implementation of XR and provision of VR/AR services
 The presentation included various measures implemented and future activity plans based on these measures, such as providing a field for presentation and verification of XR, forming a community to promote exchanges, and providing service opportunities for Tokyo residents.

6) Iwata Laboratory, University of Tsukuba

Project: Nishi-Shinjuku Cyber-Physical Art Museum that Provides a Walking Experience
 The event was held to provide visitors with a real-world experience of the museum in cyber space by utilizing the Toray treadmill, a device that can provide the sensation of walking, and future plans for activities based on the figures achieved and the results of a questionnaire survey were presented.

(vii) COTON Inc.

Project: Nishi-Shinjuku 5G Sounding City Project
 The presentation outlined the results of various events and measures implemented as part of activities to provide services that integrate the real world and virtual sound space by making various data in the Nishi-Shinjuku area audible and musical in real time, as well as plans for activities based on these results.

Human Resource Development Program for Digital Society

 After the breakout sessions/project presentations, the results of the Digital Society Human Resource Development Program were reported. This program aims to form a community of students who aspire to solve social issues by utilizing digital knowledge and technology, and to develop human resources for digital society through programs such as digital lectures (August to September), internships (November to March), and an idea contest (October to February). The program has been implemented with the cooperation of several experts, companies, and organizations, with a total of more than 100 students participating to date.
 In the results report, students who participated in the program presented an overview of their initiatives and what they learned from the students' perspective.

 Each presenter gave an impassioned presentation outlining the initiatives they have been pursuing in collaboration with other companies and universities, the results and issues they have achieved in their activities, and their plans for the next year and beyond. Participants asked questions one after the other, and the content of the presentations was full of hope for the future of Nishi-Shinjuku.

 After the presentations, all participants took a commemorative photo at the end of the session!

Policies for the next fiscal year and beyond

 The Consortium will continue to support the activities of its members with the aim of realizing urban implementation of multiple advanced services in West Shinjuku by FY2024, and will further promote urban implementation of advanced services by establishing several new subcommittees in addition to the existing five subcommittees in FY2023.
